Following the holding objections from the Local Lead Flood Authorities for both Redditch and Stratford Borough Councils and Natural England, a number of meetings have been held with their representatives, and additional details, surveys and amendments to the drainage proposals have been carried out by our consultants Hydrock.

It has been proven and accepted by all parties that neither the development of this site or the proposed drainage system will have any adverse effect on the existing nearby SSSI.

The drainage design now incorporates the retention of more of the Northern ditch course in its exiting natural open channel, with biodiversity and habitat improvements. In addition, only limited culverting is now proposed and other new open channels are provided through the housing development itself, all of which will provide additional wildlife habitats. This also addresses the comments from the County Councils and Wildlife Trust on Ecology.

All the surrounding ditch course and culverts etc. in the wider catchment have been surveyed in a period of the heaviest rainfall i.e. immediately following the three named storms earlier in the year. This has proven and disproven the existence of all water courses and removed the need for any unnecessary culverting.

The drainage design has been amended so as to split the Northern and Southern catchments thus mimicking the existing natural drainage without imposing any additional flows on the Northern ditch by incorporating additional natural ponds and swales with additional wildlife habitats. This also addresses the comments from the County Councils and Wildlife Trust on Ecology.

Retention and enhancement of more ponds exceeds existing water habitat, another biodiversity benefit of the proposals.

Hydrock has prepared a Technical Note setting out the above, to read in conjunction with the associated plans, as part of the submission to the Councils.
